Colin Simmons is an edge rusher from Duncanville and five-star football recruit now attending The University of Texas. While his skills on the field make headlines, it’s his special off-the-field relationship with his younger brother Clayton that’s the real story. Clayton was diagnosed with autism in 2020, and the family quickly realized there were limited resources and activities around them for high-energy kids on the spectrum.
Highlighting Clay’s love of colors, Colin and his mom Monica McCarley created the 501(c)3 nonprofit Clay’s Color Crew in 2024 to support the entire Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) community. Their goal is to bring autism resources and facilities to underserved and lower-economic areas in South Dallas and beyond.
CREATIVITY • COMMUNITY • CELEBRATION
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how people learn, communicate, behave and interact with others. According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism affects an estimated 1 in 36 children in the United States. These children may feel overwhelmed, stressed, uncomfortable, anxious or upset in unfamiliar situations and social events. It can sometimes be difficult for kids diagnosed with ASD and their families to be out in certain social situations, which is why it’s important to provide sensory-safe and supportive outlets accessible to further the child’s development
Clay’s Color Crew will raise funds through a variety of colorful initiatives. Donate, purchase merchandise from our store, support our partners or attend a variety of events and fundraisers. Money will be used toward creating facilities and activities where those on the spectrum can be themselves and interact with other kids.
